This is the non-surgical management of hand disorders and injuries using physical methods such as exercise, splinting, wound care and joint mobilisations. It may also involve the treatment of other parts of the arm, in particular, which can affect hand function.
It plays a crucial role in the recovery from injury of the hand or wrist and in the recovery from hand surgical operations.
Conditions commonly treated here in the clinic include, amongst others.
- Post-operative dupuytrens disease
- DeQuarvains syndrome
- Finger/thumb sprains, dislocations and/or fractures
- Wrist fractures
- Arthritic problems – particularly at the base of the thumb
Other conditions including tendon and nerve injuries pre and post-operatively can be treated with direct liaison with the consultant as needed.
As always a thorough assessment is undertaken and treatment taken accordingly. If patients are referred via a consultant then we will be in regular contact to keep them updated.
